Serve Groups

We encourage all to serve within their God-given giftedness and calling so that we are intentionally expressing God’s love both within the church and outside the church. Serve groups are a meaningful, short term, mid sized group opportunity for you to explore serving our community while making new friendships within Sunset. Serve Groups meet over 4 weeks to plan, and serve together.

  • Awareness and Response to Sex Trafficking

    Serve Group Gatherings: Wednesdays September 21, 28, October 5 & 12, 6:45pm
    Service Project: Sunday, November 17
Does it happen in our neighborhood? The answer is yes; Portland is a hot spot for trafficking, and this type of crime is more common in Washington County than anywhere else in Oregon. Through this group, Sunset will learn how we can be involved protecting exploited women and children; we will collect hygiene items for survivor shelters, and we will plan and host a Shared Hope International community awareness event, at Sunset, November 17.

Serve Project: Wednesday, October 5 at Oregon Food Bank or

Sunday, October 9 at the All Church Food Drive

1 in 6 Oregonians struggles with hunger.  Through this group, Sunset will feed hungry people in our neighborhood, by serving at Oregon Food Bank, as well as collecting food and assisting with Sunset’s Helping Hands food drive.

  • Homelessness

Serve Group Gatherings: Sunday September 25 & October 2 8:45-10:15am

Service Project: Tuesday October 11 - Cook a Meal or

Wednesday, October 12 - Serve at Homeplate (BSD Homeless students)

Thursday, October 13 - Nightstrike (Portland Homeless)

What would you do to survive homelessness? Low vacancy rates in our area are leading to more teens, seniors over 62, people living with disabilities and veterans living without stable housing.  Sunset will serve the homeless as this group cooks and serves meals in Beaverton, joins Night Strike in downtown Portland and collects essential dry goods to donate.

This year around 1300 refugees will arrive in the Portland metro area, many of those families near Sunset.  Sunset will partner with Elmonica Elementary to welcome new Syrian students and their families by creating and serving at an international picnic with food, connections to local resources and fun and games.

  • Forward Stride - FULL

Serve Group Gatherings: Sundays September 25 & October 2, 12:15-1:30pm
Service Project: Saturday October 8, 9am-noon
Forward Stride is an Equine Facility where horses are used in therapy sessions for children and adults with disabilities, outside the typical clinical setting.  For this group we will put on our cowboy boots and do landscape, fencing and maintenance projects in the stables and barn area.
