Interns

Equipping future ministry leaders as they gain practical skills, discern their calling, and serve in the local church — all while being transformed into the likeness of Christ.

Sunset's Internship Program

Sunset Church’s internship program is intentionally designed for young adults who are seeking what’s next for them.

This program is great for recent high school graduates through college graduates — giving them the opportunity to build their resumes and gain on-the-job experience.

Ministry Areas

Interns choose one ministry area to focus on during their internship. Although they’ll work and interact with different staff, volunteers, and church members, interns will mainly work with their focused ministry team.

Check out the job descriptions for each ministry area below their descriptions.

Q&A

Interns can choose a 3, 6, or 9-month internship. Some ministries may prefer a specific timeframe, but we can discuss the options during the application process.

We typically offer summer or fall internships, but we are open to discussing another start time with applicants!

This is a part-time internship (around 20 hours/week) with the majority of your time spent in your ministry area. Interns will also have a weekly meeting with their internship cohort to focus on personal, spiritual, leadership, and vocational development.

We have free housing options available for interns who are not already in the Portland area! There are Sunset Church host families who can provide a room to live in, along with one meal per day throughout the internship period.

Interns who are already in the Portland area are welcome to stay in their current living situation, or they can live with one of our host families. Our intern team will discuss this with you during the application process.

The internship is not paid, but we’re happy to assist you in raising funds. There is flexibility within the intern’s schedule to work a separate part-time job.

Yep! Our internship program is truly ongoing, so you can apply throughout the year for different seasons.

We’ll be looking for summer interns in 2025, but we’re also open to having interns begin with us throughout the year. Just have a conversation with us about where you’re at, and we’d love to discuss more.

The Application Process

The process includes the online application, an interview with the team, and a completed background check and reference check.
