Serve Groups

We encourage all to serve within their God-given giftedness and calling so that we are intentionally expressing God’s love both within the church and outside the church. Serve groups are a meaningful, short term, mid-sized group opportunity for you to explore serving our community while making new friendships within Sunset.


  • Family Promise Ministry
    (Volunteer Training 101)

    Sunset has made a commitment to serve homeless kids & families in our community. We partner with Family Promise of Beaverton to provide a Day Center for families and 4 weeks a year we also HOST families overnight providing dinner, a bedroom, breakfast and sack lunch. In order to serve you must attend a mandatory Volunteer Training offered as a Serve Group at Sunset. Select one date.

  • Family Promise Ministry Day Center Serving

    Gathering:  Monday, Nov 5, 6:45 pm – 8:15 pm, Fireside Room


    “The best part of my week is Thursday mornings in the Day Center.”  Sunset has made a commitment to serve homeless kids & families in our community. The Family Promise of Beaverton Day Center & staff offices are in our building and offer services and a place to call home during the day, 7 days a week.  This Serve Group will explore how to be engaged serving families through the Day Center year 'round. Come learn and brainstorm ways to engage. Volunteer Training 101 is preferred before attending and a background check will be completed before you begin serving at the Day Center.

  • Community Warehouse SERVE GROUP

    Gatherings:  Sunday, Sept 23, 9:00 am  – 10:30 am, Room 202, (Optional - Sept 30, 9:00 am –10:00 am, Room 202) and Oct 6, 10:00 am – 10:30 am (Tour & optional lunch until about 1:00 pm)


    Life is better when a house is a home.  The Community Warehouse furniture bank believes that there are enough beds, blankets, pots, pans & furnishings circulating in our community, for everyone. Our group will host a donation drive collecting household goods & furnishings and delivering them to the Community Warehouse for distribution to families setting up new homes. Families who benefit are from our local schools & graduating Family Promise families, among others.


    Come learn more about this ministry partner who works with families in our community who are establishing their homes and need household goods and furnishings.  Please note – Saturday, October 6th includes a drop off at Sunset followed by an optional tour of the Community Warehouse in Tualatin. After the tour you’re also invited to join us for a no-host lunch at a restaurant nearby.

  • HELPING HANDS FOOD AND COATS DRIVE SERVE GROUP

    Gatherings: Wednesdays, Sept 26, Oct 10, 6:45 pm – 8:30 pm, Fireside Room and Sunday morning, Oct 28

    Help take the winter chill away for our neighbors in need.  Be a part of this  team, taking action to raise poverty awareness, while collecting donations of coats and food.

  • Food & Toy Serve “Behind the Scenes” SERVE GROUP

    Gathering:  Sunday, Oct 7, 12:30 pm  – 2:00 pm, Choir Room (Light lunch provided)


    Have you always wondered how Food & Toy works behind the scenes?  This Serve Group is your chance to find out and to contribute to the early Food & Toy work.  Food & Toy is interesting and exciting and we need your help during the early phases of the process. The work we are doing now will set the stage for the work we do on Delivery Day: Saturday, December 15.  This Serve Group will include lunch, food and toy leadership training, opportunities to help with tasks including the lunch for the school counselors, communication about food and toy, goal setting and creating art to track our goals, ideas on how to connect to the community, and more. It will be a fun and lively Serve Group. There is no obligation beyond your attendance at the Serve Group unless you decide you can’t stay away!

  • Food & Toy 101 and Assist-a-Family Teams SERVE GROUP

    Gathering:  Sunday, Nov 11, 12:30 pm  – 2:00 pm (Light lunch provided)


    Do you want to assist families for Food & Toy but find it to be too much for you during the busy Christmas season? Have you always wondered how Food & Toy works during the exciting time where we connect with families? This Serve Group is your chance to find out and to assist families in an easy and low-cost way on a team! This Serve Group includes lunch, Food & Toy 101 training, and Assist-a-Family team formation. You’ll work together to decide which family to assist, who will shop, who will wrap, and who will deliver. The church will provide the funds for the team to assist if needed.

    We believe you were created on purpose for a purpose and we want to help you explore serving opportunities through Sunset. This will be an informal gathering where you can have one-on-one conversations with someone to help you find options to explore serving.
